Graffiti Street

Apparently this part of Chongqing is considered the world's largest area covered in graffiti. While I don't believe that is true (unless I missed some big section of it) it was still a very interesting place to visit.

The main street is called HuangJuePing and is home to a number of cafes, galleries and studios. However, it was a bit disappointing compared to what I had seen and read online. As with many areas in China, it has not been kept up and is in desperate need of restoration. The once magnificent graffiti art on the apartment buildings is faded and washed away. The art studios were empty or locked up in the middle of the day and stray cats wandered the area.

However, the people who live in the area remain extremely proud to live there. One edlerly lady boasted about all the hard work that went into painting her building and thanked us for admiring it. The project took 150 days and hundreds of painters to complete, though I am unsure how long ago this occurred.
